Máximo Cortés, Raúl

He studied history at the Michoacán University of Saint Nicolás of Hidalgo (UMICH, in Spanish), Morelia, and a teacher’s training course with a specialty in the Purépecha language at the Foreign Language Center (CELE-UNAM), Morelia. He participated in five editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). He presented Korpus (La fiesta de los oficios)(2003) at the 2nd FICM; El cargo (2005) at the 3rd FICM; and El Costumbre (Pidiendo lluvia) (2005) at the 4th FICM. He participated in the 18th Festival Présence Autochtone, Montreal, with his short documentary Axuni Atari (Cazador de venados)(2006), which won the Best Work from the Michoacán Section at the 5th FICM. He won the same award at the 6th FICM for Aquí ya no entra Don Inés… Casimiro Leco (2008). He participated with his short documentary film Sïruki Tsakapu (Piedra de hormiguero) at the 8th FICM; the 4th Independent Hispanic American Film and Video Festival, “All Voices Against the Silence,” Mexico; and the 7th Indigenous Film and Video Festival (FECVI), Morelia.
