Sepúlveda Martínez, Juan Manuel

He studied filmmaking at the CUEC film school at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and received a  master’s degree in fine arts from Simon Fraser University (SFU), Vancouver. His work has been presented in three editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). Bajo la tierra (2004), which was presented at the 3rd FICM, also won the Best Documentary Short Film at the 48th Ariel Awards of Mexico and an Honorable Mention for the José Rovirosa Award from the UNAM in 2005. His documentary film La frontera infinita (2007), which participated in the Official Selection of the 58th Berlin International Film Festival, Berlinale, won Special Mention at the 5th FICM, among other prizes. His documentary Lecciones para una guerra (2011) also won Special Mention at the 9th FICM. The director received the Jury Award at the 33rd Festival Internacional de Cine Documental Cinéma du Réel International Documentary Film Festival, Paris, for Extraño rumor de la tierra cuando se abre un surco (2011).
