And the dogs went silent) was a special program which presented silent short films about dogs.

They do say that dog is man’s best friend, in this case dogs have been the characters’ best friends since silent movies have begun.

During this event which recognized the valuable work done by the Filmoteca de la UNAM (UNAM’s Film Library), the institute presented a program called Canes mudos (Mute Canines). This selection of silent short films featured the first 4 legged star in Lumiere’s film Workers Leaving the Lumiere Factory, and also Rin tin tin’s many films.

This program includes films that date back to 1895 until 1926 and it was accompanied by the pianist Deborah Silberer, it was also commented by the director of the Filmoteca de la UNAM, biologist Iván Trujillo, who explained the different stages of cinematographic language and who also pointed out the use of special effects.
