The short won the Palme D’Or at the 60th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The Institute’s program included other Morelia Film Festival winners (which also screened at Cannes this year), such as Gustavo Gamou’s La palomilla salvaje (Best Documentary Award at Morelia); and Natalia López’s En el cielo como en la tierra (Best Experimental Short). Ver llover (Best Fiction short at the FICM’s 4th edition), tells the story of Jonás, (Diego Cataño, Temporada de Patos) y Sofía (Sofía Espinosa), two teenagers who fall in love. Sofía wants to leave town; Jonás has to decide weather to stay or to go with her. Gustavo Gamu’s film follows the trials and tribulations of Reinaldo Cruz Anselmo, a shoe-shiner, and José Alfredo Jiménez, a taxi cab driver, as they attempt to change their lives, attain their dreams, and form an amateur rodeo team lead by ¨El Bandido¨. En el cielo como en la tierra tells the story of Manuel y Octavio, two youngsters who have been abandoned by their mothers and must survive in a hostile world. All three directors were present at the screening. (Translation: Paulina Suárez)
