This year, the festival showcases 42 short films and 17 documentaries from Nuevo Leon, Baja California, Jalisco, Morelos, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Guerrero, Mexico City, and, of course, Michoacán. The members of this year’s International Jury are:Patrice Carré, Critics’ Week selection committee member; Irma Dulmers, program advisor for the Rotterdam International Film Festival; Daniel Giménez Cacho, celebrated Mexican actor; Jorge Ayala Blanco, renowned film critic and scholar; Carlos A. Gutiérrez, co-founder and co-director of New York’s Cinema Tropical; and Tom Luddy, notable film producer, as well as co-director and co-founder of the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. This year, five new venues will be added to the traditional Cinépolis Morelia Centro, the festival’s main venue: the Palacio Clavijero, Cinépolis Plaza Morelia, and Cinépolis La Huerta, along with open-air locations in Plaza Valladolid and Pátzcuaro. International celebrities Werner Herzog, Barbet Schroeder, Manuel de Oliveira, Gus Van Sant, as well as actors Salma Hayek and Gael García Bernal have attended the Festival in previous years. This edition welcomes filmmakers Raúl Ruiz and Naomi Uman.
