THREE KILOMETERS TO THE END OF THE WORLD by Romanian Filmmaker Emanuel Pârvu Screened at the 22nd FICM

In the presence of Franck Finance-Madureira, president and founder of the Queer Palm and the Queer Palm Lab, Three Kilometers to the End of the World was presented at the 22nd edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).

The film, directed by Emanuel Pârvu, won the Queer Palm at the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Three Kilometers to the End of the World tells the story of 17-year-old Adi, who spends the summer in his hometown in the Danube Delta. One night he suffers a brutal attack in the street and the next day his world changes completely. His parents no longer look at him the way they used to and the apparent tranquility of the village begins to crack.

Franck Finance-Madureira was particularly grateful to Daniela Michel, founder and general director of the festival, and Alejandro Ramírez, president of FICM, for their help in creating the Queer Palm Lab residency, which is a mentoring initiative for filmmakers who are working on their first feature-length film project with queer thematic and/or characters.

The residency will run during the 22nd FICM and will last until next year. In addition, Finance-Madureira highlighted the importance of a film like Three Kilometers to the End of the World: “The film is hard, powerful, beautiful and necessary for the way it narrates homophobia in a village [...]. This film reminds us that as a society we have a level of vigilance regarding what can happen within these levels of homophobia”.
