TESIS SOBRE UNA DOMESTICACIÓN: An Adaptation at the 22nd FICM

Tesis sobre una domesticación (dir. Javier van de Couter) was presented at the 22nd Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) as one of the international premieres at the festival. The screening was attended by the director, screenwriters, and some of the cast.

As a surprise, Mexican actor Alfonso Herrera, who participates in the film, sent a video thanking the festival and apologizing for not being able to attend the screening.

This play by Javier van de Couter, based on the novel of the same name by Camila Sosa Villada (screenwriter and actress in the adaptation), tells the story of a trans woman living a dream: she is an actress, she is respected, she is married, she earns good money and she has decided to adopt a child. Life feels complete because work and personal success are part of her reality. The main character slides into this thesis, building a trans narrative that includes the right to joy, ambition, glamour and contradiction.

Camila Sosa's play makes us question every form of domestication we face in everyday life. Part of the cast even pointed out the domestication experienced under our governments, such as Argentina's, which they encouraged to resist.

At the end, Javier van de Couter commented on Camila's role as screenwriter: “I found it reassuring to work closely with Camila adapting her work. The whole screenwriting process lasted two years; we talked with Lau ( another screenwriter) and Cami a lot. The truth is that having her involved in the adaptation process gave me peace of mind.”
