Tarántula Films Will Distribute Gondry’s Science of Sleep

An excellent copy of Alejandro Jodorowski’s La montaña sagrada screened at the 4th Morelia International Film Fest thanks to Tarantula Films. The distributor also brought François Ozon’s Time to Leave; Gerardo Naranjo’s Dramamex (which screened during Critics Week, Cannes 2006, and had its Mexican premiere in Morelia); and Michel Gondry’s The Science of Sleep, the FICM’s closing film, which stars Charlotte Gainsbourg and Gael García Bernal.

Mauricio Katz thanked the FICM for backing their films and announced that Tarantula will distribute a remastered version of La montaña sagrada, which, due to copyright problems, was unavailable for a long time. This film will be part of a DVD collection, along with Fando y Lis and El Topo.

Katz also said that they are currently receiving entries for a one-minute stop-motion animation competition. Entries have been pouring in from all over the country since they announced the competition, and have been quite good so far, he added. The winning film will be transferred to 35mm film and included in each of the DVD copies of The Science of Sleep. It will also show before the film in theaters. Gondry will be part of the jury that will pick the winning short, he said.

Tarántula Films will also premiere James Marsh’s The king (USA 2006), starting Gael García Bernal; Aki Kaurismäki´s latest film, Lights in the Dusk (2006); and Terry Gilliam’s Tideland (Canada, UK, 2005), among others.
