A SUDDEN GLIMPSE TO DEEPER THINGS is Presented at FICM 2024

The documentary A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things (2024, dir. Mark Cousins) was presented during the 22nd Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). The screening was introduced by Mary Bell and Adam Dawtrey, producers of the film.

“It's very special for us to present a film like this, with such a Scottish spirit, and to do it here, in the heart of Mexico,” commented the producer, excited to share the reactions of the audience in attendance.

Adam Dawtrey, looking for a narrative thread that would resonate between the film and the Mexican audience, compared the sensation conveyed by the streets of Mexico, full of visual and auditory culture, with the synaesthetic condition experienced by Wilhelmina Barns-Graham.

A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things (2024) is an immersion into the life and work of Barns-Graham, a Scottish painter of great relevance to 20th-century art, whose work was not fully recognized until after her death.

The film won the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2024, the first documentary to win this award, and the first British film to do so since Kes (1969, dir. Ken Loach).
