The director explained that he chose to film in the same location as the original movie with the intention of capturing “everything that had changed in Spain over 60 years, and everything that had not changed at all.” Pedro Aguilera Although the story retains much of the narrative structure of the 1966 film, Aguilera introduced a significant change regarding the characters: while the protagonists in the original film were men, in this new version, they are women. He also noted that, unlike in countries such as France or Germany, it is not very common in Spanish cinema to produce remakes or sequels to classic films. He also spoke about the casting of actress Rossy de Palma in one of the lead roles. The director emphasized the importance of having her in the film, describing her face as an embodiment of Spanish aesthetic identity: “Rossy’s profile is the profile of Picasso; it’s the profile of Spain. There is an entire aesthetic contained within Rossy de Palma’s face.”Finally, Aguilera shared details regarding the visual effects, which were designed to incorporate a specific visual style inspired by films from the 1970s. He explained that the process was complex and required several stages of work to align with the production schedule. The director also expressed gratitude to his team for the effort they made to complete the filming within the established deadlines and with the limited resources at their disposal.
