Films selected by FICM 2011 shown in San Diego

The San Diego Latino Film Festival was founded nearly twenty years ago as a student festival focusing on the works of Latino directors. Since then, it has become an important showcase of Latino films. Guests such as Alfonso Arau, Julio Bracho, Demián Bichir, Gustavo Loza, Alfonso Cuarón, Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, Carlos Carrera, Rodrigo Prieto, Luis Mandoki and Arturo Ripstein, among others, have attended the festival. In its 2012 edition, the San Diego festival will feature five films selected by FICM 2011.
El premio by Paula Markovitch, winner of the Best Mexican Feature Film award at FICM 2011, will participate in the Jewish Latino Showcase; along with Las razones del corazón by Arturo Ripstein, which was screened at FICM 2011. The Jewish Latino Showcase includes other Mexican films: Ocean Blues by Salomon Askenazi and the documentary 0.56% ¿Qué le pasó a México? by Lorenzo Hagerman.
Agnus Dei, Cordero de Dios by Alejandra Sánchez, Official Selection at FICM 2011, will participate in Documania!, the San Diego Latino Film Festival's documentary competition. El lugar más pequeño by Tatiana Huezo, winner of the Best Documentary Directed by a Woman award and a jury Special Mention at FICM 2011, will compete in this category as well. Mexican cinema will also be represented in Documania! by 0.56% ¿Qué le pasó a México? by Lorenzo Hagerman and Reportero by Bernardo Ruiz.

El lenguaje de los machetes by Kyzza Terrazas, Official Selection at FICM 2011, will be among the featured narrative films in San Diego. Other Mexican films exhibited in this section will be: El infierno by Luis Estrada; Ella y el candidato by Roberto Girault; Canela by Jordi Mariscal and Adiós mundo cruel by Jack Zagha Kababie. The animated film Brijes 3D by Benito Fernández, will be shown in the children's section of the festival.
The Mexican Shorts Program at the San Diego Latino Film Festival will show Prita Noire by Sofía Carrillo, winner of the Best Short Film (ex aequo) award at FICM 2011. This program also includes: Contra el mar by Richard Parkin; La bolsa by Stefani Saintonge and Chantal Flores; Martín by Andrés Cruz and Osvaldo Montaño; Crescendo by Alonso Álvarez; Lebenswelt by Elías Brossoise and 4 latas by Perla Cruz.
