Alejandro Ramírez, president of the FICM, presented Nyman as “the biggest musician and pianist in Europe and the world who has worked with filmmakers such as Peter Greenaway, creating the music for many of his films; as well as for the films of Jane Campion (The Piano), Neil Jordan (The End of the Affair) and Michael Winterbottom.” Nyman played the following songs from different films: Franklin, Jack, Debbie (from Wonderland); The Morrow, Becoming Jerome, The Departure (from Gattaca); Candiefire, Why, If (from The Diary of Anne Frank); The Exchange (from The Claim); and Big My Secret, Silver-Fingered Fling; All Imperfect Things; The Heart Asks Pleasure First (from The Piano). Nayman also put music to the films Puma Court, directed by Nyman with the music of Wonderland; Paul Strand and Charles Sheeler’s 1921 film Manhattan; and Jean Vigó’s 1930 film A propos de Nice.
