Richard Peña was Program Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Director of the New York Film Festival from 1988 through 2012. While with the Film Society, Peña organized retrospectives of Michelangelo Antonioni, Sacha Guitry, Abbas Kiarostami, Robert Aldrich, Gabriel Figueroa, Ritwik Ghatak, Kira Muratova, Youssef Chahine, Yasujiro Ozu, Carlos Saura, Roberto Gavaldón and Amitabh Bachchan, as well as overseeing major film series about cinema in Afri- ca, China, Cuba, Poland, Hungary, Korea, Turkey, Argentina, the former Soviet Union, and Arab countries. Since 1992, he has organized, along with the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the annual “Spanish Cinema Now” series at Lincoln Center, as well as the “Rendez-vous with French Cinema” with UniFrance since 1996. A frequent international lecturer who speaks on a wide variety of film topics, he is also Professor of Film Studies at Columbia University, where he specializes in film theory and international cinema. In 2014-15, he was Visiting Professor in Latin American Studies at Princeton University. He is also currently the co-host of Channel 13’s weekly Reel 13.
