Renew Media presents this year’s winners

Lucila Moctezuma, Renew Media Grants director for Artes Audiovisuales en México (Audio Visual Mexican Arts), introduced, last night, Ernesto Contreras, who won last year, so he could name this year’s winners.

Contreras, who had previously presented his film Parpados Azules, expressed his deep gratitude for all the support he received: “this goes beyond being able to do a short film, it is the possibility to share experiences with other creators like Carlos Carrera or Julián Hernández.”

Some of the new grantees are:

Francisco Vargas with Aquí no pasa nada, Iria Gómez Concheiro with Asalto al cine; Luis Felipe Hernández with Martyris and José Alfredo Jiménez with Acteal, 10 años de impunidad.

The 5th Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia was the platform where Renew Media celebrated their 20th anniversary. This foundation was established in 1988 by the Rockefeller Foundation, and it has helped 82 visual artists in Mexico.

Daniela Michel, FICM’s director, assured everyone: “it is a privilege to present the winners and to listen to Ernesto Contreras, Carlos Rulfo and many more grantees that probably wouldn’t be what they are today without the grants.”
