Solar Luna, Alejandro

He studied communication at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and cinematography at the CUEC-UNAM film school. He participated with his first feature film El paciente interno (2012) in the 10th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM); the 20th Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival, Toronto; and the 56th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, Germany, among others. The film received a Jury Special Mention and the Guerrero Press Award at the 27th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG, in Spanish); a Jury Special Award at the 23rd Festival Iberoamerican Film Festival Cine Ceará, Brazil; the Jury Award at the 31st Uruguay International Film Festival; the Docs 360 award at the 7th International Documentary Film Festival  of Mexico City (DocsDF, in Spanish); and a nomination for an Ariel award for Best Mexican Documentary at the 55th Ariel Awards Ceremony, Mexico.

¡Aoquic iez in Mexico! ¡Ya México no existirá más!

A frenetic view runs over a convulsed Mexico City, a colossal metropolis sustained by the myth of "mestizaje" and other colonial forms of violence. Past and present weave a flurry of images; fragmented memories of this land. Ancient deities are incarnated, while dreams overlap among intimacy, complicity and the tumult. This is an erratic film that invites us to reimagine the complex relationship we have with the constructed “mexicanidad.”
