He received the National System of Art Creators grant (SNCA, in Spanish) of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA), Mexico, for his first feature Año bisiesto (2010), which participated in the 8th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) and won more than five awards at festivals around the world; including the Golden Camera award at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival; the Louvre d’Or award at the 39th Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Montreal; and the FIPRESCI Grand Prize at the 38th Belgrade International Film Festival – FEST. His second feature film Manto acuífero (2013) participated at the 11th FICM, the 8th Rome International Film Festival and the 3rd Riviera Maya Film Festival (RMFF), Mexico, among others.
