Félix Mercado; Hugo

He studied computer engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and filmmaking at the Film University of the Mexican Association of Independent Filmmakers (AMCI, in Spanish). His fiction short film 10:15:00 AM (2006) was shown at more than 30 screenings and festivals around the world, including the 4th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), the 30th São Paulo International Film Festival and the 3rd Corto Circuito Short Film Festival of New York. It also received a Special Mention of the Jury at the 21st Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG); Best Screenwriting Award at the 4th National Screenwriting Contest by the Society of Mexican Writers (SOGEM, in Spanish); and Special Mention of the Jury at the 28th International Festival of New Latin American Film in Havana.

This is an erratic film that invites us to reimagine the complex relationship we have with the constructed “mexicanidad.”

As a teenager, Ziuta weathered exile with fortitude and determination, saving her mother and other relatives from perishing in their flight. Despite the horrors and scarcity she endured, she upheld a grateful outlook on life.
