I had to tell them that Mexico is well known for its corruption and its surrealism.” Plutarco Haza (Director of Hugo vs. el mar): “My short is a bit autobiographical; it portrays my love for football and revolves around a kid who is kicking around his ball near the sea. He imagines that he’s part of Mexico’s official football team and that the waves are the Brazilian team. My son, Nicolás, helped me by dubbing the main character’s voice.”
