Special Programs

Among the Festival’s many Special Programs, the Media Arts Fellowship Program will screen Ira Sachs’ Forty Shades of Blue and Craig Brewer’s Hustle and Flow, as well as the work of filmmaker and musician Ricardo Nikolayevsky.

As part of its Twentieth Anniversary, the Fonds Sud Foundation will present The Cinema du SudProgram in Morelia. Since 1984, the Fonds Sud Foundation has raised funds to support independent film projects in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, co producing more that 320 feature films in all.

The films included in this program are: Tina Flores’ Oriana (Venezuela-France, 1985) winner of the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival; Zhang Ke Jia’s Zhantai (Hong Kong, China, Japan, France, 2000) Best Film at the Buenos Aires International Film Festival in 1985; Ramadan Suleman’s Lettred’amourzoulu (France- South Africa-Germany,2004), Pamela Nomvete’s performance in this film won her the Best Actress award at the Pan African Film and Television Festival in Ouagadougou.

The Spanish Exile Program will screen Fernando Trueba’s Belle Epoque (1992) winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film and nine Goya awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Script and Best Cinematography.
