Natalia Almada presents feature The General

The recorded voice of Alicia Calles is mixed with the images of the inauguration ceremony of President Calles, family pictures and other video snippets that show the other side of one of the most controversial and misunderstood characters in the history of Mexican politics. Alongside this personal story about the former president, there is another one about the life of a fragmented Mexico - a society that no longer knows which politician to believe, a confused country, that even though scarred, keeps on moving.

Director Natalia Almada and producer Daniela Alatorre were present during the screening. Alatorre said that she met Almada on a cab while both were looking for an apartment in Mexico City. The filmmaker explained that her family gave her the cassettes that her grandmother left around the year 2002. “They are only six hours long, but they summarize an entire life,” she said.  She explained that obviously the project is based on a fabricated story, referring to the timing and edition of the film, but in the end it was a dream-come-true, and she hoped it would also mean that to her grandmother.
