Summer of 1912. Ever since the death of his wife, Monsieur Ladmiral, an old painter, lives with his maid in the countryside. Every Sunday, his son Gonzague and his family pay him a visit. They take long strolls together, have dinner and then Monsieur Ladmiral tells stories about life and art. One day, his daughter Irene shows up unexpectedly. Despite being a handful, she is still his favorite. With her arrival, Ladmiral recovers the joy of living
