In 1982, the eruption of the Chichonal volcano buried the Zoque town of Esquipulas Guayabal. 37 years later, the ejidatarios of Nuevo Guayabal rebuild their lives while the volcano and the buried town lurk in the undergrowth. Trinidad, a poet born on the day of the eruption, has dreamlike visions that quickly spread through his community, sparking a collective effort to unearth the old home.
