This is a portrait of the life of 17-year-old Isabelle, who is beginning to explore her sexuality. The film is divided into four episodes separated by four seasons and four songs, from when Isabelle loses her virginity to when she chooses a life of prostitution to test her limits.

In France during the 1970s, devoted wife and mother Suzanne lives to please her husband, wealthy factory owner Robert Pujol. Robert runs his operation with an iron fist and treats not only his employees, but also his children and Suzanne (whom he views as a decorative object) in a tyrannical fashion. When the workers go on strike and take Robert as a hostage, Suzanne steps in to run the factory and, to everyone´s surprise, proves herself to be both competent and efficient. But when Robert returns home, complications soon arise.
