Inspector Wens is on the trail of a serial killer who has committed four murders during the course of a few months. The only clue is a calling card signed ?Monsieur Durand? found at each of the murder scenes. Wens receives an unexpected tip that Mr. Durand is one of the eccentric tenants living in a boarding house at No. 21. Disguised as a clergyman, the inspector takes a room at the house. The suspects are arrested, but while each is in jail, another murder occurs.
