In an unprecedented and hard-line change in immigration policy, the Trump Administration’s Migrant Protection Protocol - or the “Remain in Mexico” policy - has forced vulnerable asylum seekers to wait in Mexico as their cases are processed, trapping them in dangerous living conditions without adequate medical services. Weeks before the COVID-19 outbreak, VICE's Paola Ramos traveled to the largest refugee camp on the U.S.-Mexico border in Matamoros, Mexico to embed with the doctors, lawyers, and asylum seekers at the frontlines of this growing humanitarian crisis.
