Emilia works in a dress shop. Her modest salary does not allow her to buy the clothes she would like to wear. One night there is a dance and, being very much in love with her boyfriend, she decides to take an outfit from the shop to impress him. However, everything goes wrong and when the robbery is discovered she is fired. Shortly after, she discovers she is going blind and, to make matters worse, her mother dies.

After years of absence, Laura Mendoza returns home and falls in love with Enrique de Alzaga. When the couple are about to be married, the drought returns and reawakens old grudges.
