02 · 26 · 13 Mexican Cinema at the Miami International Film Festival 2013 Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard In 2012, the Miami festival showed two Mexican films which were part of FICM’s 2011 Official Selection: Los últimos cristeros by Matías Meyer and Fecha de caducidad, by Kenya Márquez, which won the Lexus Ibero Opera Prima Award. This year the Miami International Film Festival includes two films which were in competition at the 10th FICM: Halley by Sebastián Hofmann and the documentary Miradas múltiples (La máquina loca) by Emilio Maillé. Mexico will also be represented in Miami by productions that have been recognized at the world’s most prestigious festivals, like Después de Lucía by Michel Franco (Un Certain Regard Award in Cannes 2012); La Sirga by William Vega (Official Selection at Films in Progress 22 and at the Director’s Fortnight 2012); Tanta agua by Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge (Norteado Award at Films in Progress 22); Who Is Dayani Cristal? by Marc Silver (Cinematography Award: World Cinema Documentary at Sundance 2013); No by Pablo Larraín (Oscar nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and winner of the Art Cinema Award at the Director’s Fortnight 2012); and Post Tenebras Lux by Carlos Reygadas (Best Director at Cannes 2012). Two Mexican films will have their world premiere at the Miami International Film Festival: Cinco de Mayo by Rafa Lara and The Boy Who Smells Like Fish by Analeine Cal y Mayor, which will compete for the Lexus Ibero Opera Prima Award. Finally, the television series Capadocia, directed by Carlos Carrera, Javier Patron, Moises Urquid and Pedro Pablo Ibarra, will be presented for the first time in the United States by HBO Latin America at the Miami International Film Festival.
