Olallo Rubio protests the "system" in This is not a movie

Applauded by his fans, Rubio, former radio commentator at the extinct Radioactivo, emphasized that this project "is also a protest against oneself, since each of us are little systems and our minds are influenced by the conditioning of others."

He indicated that making the film, starring Edward Furlong, Peter Coyote and Edi Gathegi, was a difficult journey in itself. It took a long time – he started it before his documentary Y tú cuánto cuestas, which he made while working on this film.

This is not a movie is a satire in English, and whose story follows Pete Nelson, 25 hours before the imminent end of the world.

Nelson locks himself inside a Las Vegas hotel room and there he tries to understand the confusion around him – influenced by the all-powerful universe of film TV, pop culture, misinformation, drugs and propaganda.

The journey that follows is a surreal, psychedelic, apocalyptic quest where nothing is as it appears…

He explained that in This is not a movie there are very obvious satires, tributes and references to other films, since he is a great admirer of the 7th art.

Speaking about the musical accompaniment by Slash -- former guitarist of Guns 'N Roses and currently leader of Velvet Revolver – Olallo said that he had no problem contracting him. He sent Slash the screenplay, Slash agreed to collaborate and composed about 30 songs for the film.

Asked why the film, which is Mexican, is in English, Rubio said because it takes place in Las Vegas.

Olalla Rubio worked as a radio announcer, screenwriter, producer, creative director and general director at Radioactivo. He has recorded podcasts, collaborated in newspapers and magazines, and has made a documentary and a feature film.
