Ha obtenido las becas de la Fundación Toscano, del Instituto Sundance y de Jóvenes Creadores del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA), entre otras. Su obra ha recorrido más de 60 festivales alrededor del mundo y ha competido en cinco ediciones del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM). Codirigió el largometraje documental Toro Negro (2005), fue premiado en diversos festivales como el 3er FICM, y en el 53° Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián, España; entre otros. Participó en el 6° FICM con su cortometraje de ficción Tierra y Pan (2008), por el que obtuvo más de quince premios nacionales e internacionales, entre ellos, el León de Oro a Mejor Largometraje en el 65° Festival Internacional de Cine de Venecia, Italia. Ha dirigido varios capítulos de la serie Club de Cuervos y el documental Cuando conocí al Chapo. Participó, entre otros festivales, en el 8° FICM y en el 5° SSFFM con su cortometraje de ficción 29 (2010), ganador del premio a Mejor Cortometraje en el 30° Certamen de Cortometraje Amateur Enkarzine, España. Compitió en el 10° FICM con su cortometraje de ficción Las manos limpias (2012), seleccionado además en el 3er Festival Internacional de Cine UNAM (FICUNAM) y en el 69° Festival Internacional de Cine de Venecia, entre otros. Participó en el 43° Festival Internacional de Cine de Rotterdam (IFFR por sus siglas en inglés) con su largometraje documental En la estancia (antes titulado Las voces) (2014), que forma parte de la Selección Oficial del 12º FICM.
