Nicolas Philibert Unveiled his Commemorative Armchair at the Presentation of SUR L’ADAMANT

French director Nicolas Philibert, special guest of the 21st Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), presented his latest documentary Sur l'Adamant, at the FICM. Prior to the screening, Philibert unveiled a commemorative armchair with his name that will remain at the projection room 4 in Cinépolis Morelia Centro. The presentation and unveiling of the armchair was attended by the President of the FICM, Alejandro Ramírez Magaña; the Vice President, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel; and the founder and General Director of the festival, Daniela Michel; in addition to the psychoanalyst Linda de Zitter.

"I fell in love with Mexico because of you -or thanks to you-, because I have been invited many times. I am very moved by this great attention they give to my work, by this fidelity that moves me deeply," he said.

"I make films with a very small team and often it is very lonely, because filming is fears, anguish, insomnia... and then I think of you, my friends who are so far away and at the same time so close. And I think we share this idea that cinema can somehow erase borders. Cinema makes us grow, allows us to stand and resist the violence of the world. In the film you will see people who practice some form of art and that is a way of resisting."

The documentary Sur l ’Adamant focuses on the Adamant, a one-of-a-kind day care center: it is a floating building located on the Seine, in the heart of Paris. This center welcomes adults suffering from mental disorders, helps them structure time and space, reconnect with the world and find a little encouragement. The team that manages it tries to resist, as much as possible, the decline and dehumanization of psychiatry.

In front of the FICM audience, Philibert thanked the psychoanalyst Linda de Zitter for introducing him to the Adamant: “Throughout this whole adventure, I have a lot to thank Linda for her presence, for her light, for her intelligence. Today, Linda, in front of this audience, I want to thank you for enriching my life."

Nicolas Philibert is the most transcendent documentary filmmaker in France. He always respects the dignity of the topics and at the same time offers us a deeply revealing and unpretentious look at fundamental philosophical questions. For 15 years, more than 120 tributes or retrospectives of his films have been organized in more than 30 countries. In 2023 he won the Golden Bear of the Berlinale for Sur l 'Adamant.
