Montblanc Impulso al Arte Joven awards ceremony took place last night at the 6th
Morelia International Film Festival. The goal of this contest is to promote and
help Mexican artists, as well as distribute the selected work and get it seen
by larger audiences.

certificate and a check for a 100,000-peso grant to put towards the production
of her next short film.

Down
the (Rabbit) Hole
will be shown today at 8 p.m. before the screening
of the film Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona
. The Impulso al Arte Joven
2008 prize also opens up the possibility of the director’s next short film
being shown in another national film festival.

Montblanc
México, created the Impulso Arte Joven prize three years ago. Through a
national conference, they invite young artists to create a piece whose central
motif is Montblanc. Each year they focus on a different discipline, the first
year was dedicated to sculpture, the second to photography in the city of
Zacatecas, and this time, they chose short film in the city of Morelia as the
site for the awards ceremony.

At
the end of the ceremony, a cocktail reception was held where the chosen films
were projected. Among those films shown were Juan Nicolás Pereda Rodríguez’s Antigüedades
, who received an
honorable mention. The other short films that received acknowledgement were
David Sánchez’s Ella me ama, pero no lo sabe
; Ianis Alexis Guerrero
Ramírez’s El teatro está cerrado
; and Andrés Daniel Mendoza
Fuentes’ El mejor corto de la vida
, all of which were also
shown.
