Mix Mexico Festival: Film and Sexual Diversity Presented SANDBAG DAM by Cejen Cernic

Alfonso Escandón, director of the Mix Mexico Festival: Film and Sexual Diversity, presented Sandbag Dam by Croatian director Cejen Cernic at a special screening during the 23rd Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). The film was part of the program for the 29th edition of this festival dedicated to LGBTQ+ cinema.

“Thank you very much for being here. Arturo Castelán, founder of this festival, would be very happy to see a full house,” he said.

He pointed out that the MIX Festival has been around for 30 years and is the second longest-running festival in the country and the oldest in Mexico City. “It's a festival with a lot of history, and every year we try to maintain that relevance and power,” he added.

About the film, Escandón said that this year's MIX festival had about 90 titles in its program, but this one was chosen for two reasons: "Because it was one of the most popular films with the MIX audience and because of its theme. We often think that we've overcome the difficulty young people have in accepting themselves as they are, but in reality, there are still many problems and a lot of discrimination. The director is very happy that this film is being shown here."

Finally, the festival's director thanked FICM for opening its doors to Festival MIX and including special screenings in its program.
