Daniela Michel, Luc Dardenne On the other hand, Luc Dardenne thanked the festival for the recognition: "Thank you for this award, thank you to the profession and to all the people who make films here. Mexico has such a long history of cinema and, instead, in Belgium we have such a short one…" He also dedicated some words to actress Émilie Dequenne, who won an award in Cannes; in the words of the filmmaker, her performance was “truly magnificent." He said that he really wanted to pay tribute to her, "she is on all levels and we were rehearsing for a whole month at ten degrees below zero," concluded the filmmaker. Rosetta is the story of a teenager who lives in a trailer with her alcoholic mother on the outskirts of Lieja, she screams and fights in the halls of the factories from which she has been fired without explanation. Then she walks around the city, desperate to find a job and rejecting any type of charity. Rosetta is obsessed with the fear of disappearing, with the shame of not belonging: she wants a normal life. This was an award-winning feature film in many international festivals, the Golden Palm, the Award for Best Actress, a special mention at the Ecumenical Jury-Special Mention at the Cannes Film Festival in 1999, among others.
