Los herederos wins José Rovirosa award.

Since its first presentation at the 2008 Venice Film Festival, the documentary has won 16 national and international prizes, including an Ariel for Best Documentary and Best Edition in 2009, the Great Coral Award in Havana, in Santiago de Chile (FIDOCS) 2009 and the "FEISAL" at the 24th Guadalajara International Film Festival.

The director said Los herederos, which opens at commercial theaters on Sept. 25, "shows the difficult reality that many boys and girls face in the Mexican countryside. It is a portrait of their lives and their daily struggle to survive. Their activities vary: some are peasants and shephards, others walk long distances to chop wood or carry water at very young ages. Some weave, some make bricks, while others are artisans and carve wood to make alebrijes. Having inherited the techniques and tools of their ancestors, these children also inherit their misery. Generation after generation is imprisoned in this cycle of inherited poverty."

Polgovsky, whose first film Trópico de Cáncer was awarded at FICM 2004, is currently working on a documentary about children infected with parasites in Africa.
