La región salvaje by Amat Escalante will compete in Venice 2016

The Venice Film Festival revealed the films that will compose the Official Competition of its 73rd edition, which will take place from August 31 to September 10, 2016. The most recent film by Amat Escalante, La región salvaje, is included in the International Competition for the Golden Lion. This section also includes films by other important directors such as Emir Kusturica, Terrence Malick and Wim Wenders.

La región salvaje is set in a city of the Mexican Bajío (center of the country). A mysterious woman, Verónica, descends from the mountains near a place where a meteorite fell and enters the lives of a couple in crisis, Ángel and Alejandra, who struggle to find one another but who, at the same time, cannot avoid self-destruction in the process. Something out of this world arrives to alter their lives.
