The Presence of Stephen Frears at the 13th FICM

The 13th FICM is honored to have the presence of Stephen Frears, one of the greatest British directors of contemporary cinema. This is the second time that Frears has been in Morelia. The director presented six of his films, including The Queen (2006), which was nominated for an Oscar, at the 5th FICM.

Stephen Frears on the theme of the film:
“We know that the aspects of dumping and drugs are very related to sports. It’s one theme but I also thought of it as a theme, a crime, a big crime. There were some things that were invented, but I think it was what really happened.”

Stephen Frears on Ben Foster:
“He is an American and is crazy. He was marvelous because he did everything that was asked of him. We feel very fortunate to have had him.”

Stephen Frears on being a director:
“To be a film director, yes, you have to be crazy.”

In addition to the presentation of his films, Stephen Frears conversed with Laurent Cantet, Barbet Schroeder and Wash Westmoreland, moderated by film critic Nick Roddick, at the Biblioteca Pública of Morelia. You can watch the video: here.
