LA MUERTE ES TEMPORAL, EL AMOR ES ETERNO A Short by Cerveza Victoria Celebrating Day of the Dead at the 24th FICM

La muerte es temporal, el amor es eterno, a short film by Cerveza Victoria, was presented at the 24th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), as part of a double feature that also included the screening of Killing Castro, by Eif Rivera.

Gabriel Díaz Burgueño, brand director for Victoria, and Daniela Michel, founder and director of the FICM, highlighted the collaboration between their respective organizations, which helped make the Morelia festival possible and celebrate the rich cultural tradition of Michoacán.

“It is thanks to friends like you that the festival is possible. We represent a collective effort; year after year, we engage with the entire city, and the Day of the Dead celebrations, in a highly creative and organic way,” Daniela Michel said.

Díaz Burgueño thanked the FICM organizers and reflected on the significance of presenting this short film within the context of the festival: “It is an honor to be here with you today to present this work. Being here in Morelia, you can truly feel the spirit of the Day of the Dead. Cerveza Victoria is proud to have been part of this tradition for over 10 years.”

The short film tries to answer the question: What happens to love when death comes? “In Mexico, there is a belief that when a hummingbird visits you, it is the soul of a loved one who is no longer with you. We took this belief and began to add layers of nuance to it,” explained Díaz Burgueño.

Additionally, the film’s musical score was discussed; it features the song “Amor Eterno,” performed by Juan Gabriel.

The creative process is notable for its “handmade” quality. It involved 125 hours of post-production, with contributions from nearly 40 artists.

“In such a digital, fast-paced era, one so full of artificial intelligence, we opted for a stop-motion technique. We wanted to connect with people’s hearts and share the message that traditions like this remind us that death is temporary, but love is eternal,” concluded Díaz Burgueño.
