Jorge Magaña

Born in Mexico City in 1976. He has a BA in communication sciences (journalism) from the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He has worked as an editorial contributor and editor of several sections (entertainment, culture, and film) at multiple magazines; assistant to the International Markets department at the Directorate of Film Distribution of the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE); international festival coordinator for IMCINE; curator and programmer of numerous feature and short film showcases in many countries; special guest and international juror for feature and short films at multiple festivals; editorial coordinator, researcher, and copyeditor for IMCINE’s Annual Mexican Film Catalogue; and head of public relations and contributor to the monthly programming of Mexico’s National Film Archives.

He also worked in public relations and marketing for the Cinecapital International Film Festival in Mexico City; participated in the press department, organization, and production of different editions of the Ariel Awards; directed the public relations, press, and marketing agency Press Kit México; served as cultural promoter, guest coordinator, and press coordinator for Mexican festivals and films; and worked for the production company Mil Nubes Cine.

As an educator, he has taught in the cultural management certification program at the ENAP (UNAM) and offered film workshops at UNITEC (South Campus), cultural marketing at the Film Training Center (CCC), and film genres at the SAE Institute. In 2006, he founded Shorts México: the International Short Film Festival of Mexico, which he still directs today.
