Isabelle Huppert made her screen debut in Les valseuses / Going Places (1974), by Bertrand Blier, and then acted under the direction of Bertrand Tavernier. Her career took off with La dentellière / The Lacemaker (1977), by Claude Goretta, and Violette Nozière (1978) by Claude Chabrol, for which she received the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. Huppert’s collaboration with Chabrol continued in films like Une affaire de femmes / Story of Women (1988), Madame Bovary (1991) and La cérémonie (1995). She received the Best Actress award, tied with Shirley MacLaine, for her part in Une affaire de femmes at the 45th Venice International Film Festival, and the Best Actress award for her part in La cérémonie at the 52nd edition of the same festival. The actress has also worked with André Téchiné, Benoît Jacquot, Maurice Pialat, Michel Deville, Olivier Assayas, François Ozon, Olivier Dahan, Patrice Chéreau and Claire Denis, as well as in international films with Jean-Luc Godard, Mauro Bolognini, Michael Cimino, Joseph Losey, Marco Ferreri, Andrzej Wajda, Hal Hartley, the Taviani brothers, Raoul Ruiz, Werner Schroeter and Michael Haneke. She won the second Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her work with Haneke in La pianiste/The Piano Teacher in 2001. In 2005 an exhibition entitled “La femme aux portraits” showed her through the lens of 75 photographers, including Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau and Helmut Newton. The exhibit, which was presented in New York and then in Europe, revealed her passion for photography. Isabelle Huppert also frequently works in theater. She acted under the direction of Bob Wilson in Orlando, with notable results, and recently in Quartett. She also acted in 4.48 Psychose/ 4.48 Psychosis by Claude Regy, Medea at the Aviñón Festival and Mary Stuart at the Royal National Theatre of London. Isabelle Huppert headed the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009.

Daniela Michel, general director of FICM, said: “Isabelle Huppert has been a top icon in the international film panorama for the last four decades. Few actresses in the history of film have had such a solid, prolific and diverse work. It is an unequaled privilege to welcome her.”

To celebrate her presence, the 13th FICM will present some of the titles of her filmography, which is comprised of more than 120 films, including three of her most recent films: Asphalte (Macadam Stories) (2015) by Samuel Benchetrit, Louder than Bombs (2015) by Joachim Trier, and Valley of Love (2015) by Guillaume Nicloux. The first film was presented at a special screening at the 68th Cannes Film Festival and the other two were part of the Official Selection of the same edition of Cannes.

It is an honor for FICM to have Isabelle Huppert at its 13th edition and we are especially grateful to the UniFrance for making this visit possible.
