Daniela Michel, Ira Sachs During his speech, the filmmaker reflected on the making of Keep the Lights On and noted that the film emerged after a time of financial crisis: “I made this film after 2008, the year the whole world went into recession and I ran out of funds to finance it. I had to reinvent myself. In a way, that crisis was a liberation and that's how this film came to be."Sachs also highlighted the importance of festivals like FICM, which give audiences a chance to access films that would otherwise be difficult to see in commercial theaters. "It's a great fortune to have it," he said about the festival, "I've seen it grow and it's wonderful to witness how Daniela has maintained the essence it's always had."
