Translated by Paulina Suárez
The 60th edition of The Cannes Film Festival will showcase Elisa Miller’s Ver llover (Watching it Rain), winner of the Best Fiction Short Award at the Morelia International Film Festival 2006.

Ver llover tells the story of two teenagers, Jonás (Diego Cataño) and Sofía (Sofía Espinosa), who have to decide whether of not to migrate from the little Mexican town they live in.

Carlos Reygadas’ Silent Light (Luz silenciosa) will be competing for the Palm D’or. The Mexican filmmaker was awarded the Camera d´Or Special Mention for Japón in 2002; Battle in Heaven was also part of the main competition at Cannes 2005, and was screened at the FICM’s third edition.

The FICM will undoubtedly leave a mark at Cannes, as this year it will host a Celebration of Mexican Cinema, organized along with the International Critics’ Week. Gael García Bernal, the sidebars’ ambassador and the Celebration’s guest of honor, will also present his directorial debut, Déficit.

Alejandro Ramírez Magaña, President of the FICM, will hand out the Grand Prix, a cash prize of 5,000 € sponsored by Cinépolis, during Cannes’ International Critics’ Week.

The Cannes Film Festival will take place from the 16th to the 27th of May.
