Morelia Lab

The second part of Morelia LAB, a workshop for young documentary film producers and directors from Latin America, was inaugurated yesterday at the El Conservatorio de las Rosas.

The inauguration was presided over by Alejandro Ramírez, president of the FICM and General Director of Cinépolis; Alfredo Josckowicz , Director of IMCINE; Carlos Taibo, director of Morelia Lab Doc; and Said Dahdah of the Latin American Conference for Leaders in Audiovisual and Cinematographic Arts.

Dahdah expressed his appreciation for the support of the organizers and said that 14 pieces from all over Latin America will benefit from “this unique forum, which opens new possibilities for co-productions and allows filmmakers to raise the quality of their work.”

Josckowicz emphasized the passion which goes into the organization of Morelia LAB. “It’s a lot of effort to organize this; its IMCINE at its best.” He also expressed his concern for bringing film education up to date:
“Its important to continue promoting the formation and development of professional filmmakers; to invest in human capital, regardless of the ideologies of public administrators.”

Ramírez affirmed his commitment to documentary films: he has backed, along with the FICM, a project conceived by Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, Pablo Cruz’s production house Canana Films, which showcases documentaries throughout the country.

“The increase in ticket sales proves how there is growing interest in documentaries. We will unveil Ambulante’s second tour next Saturday, which will begin in February, 2007.”

Morelia LAB Doc, will take place from the 17th to the 22nd of October. Its aims are to promote the formation and development of young documentary film producers; to raise questions about the genre; and to increase the participation and access of young people to the production of documentary films.
