The PhD will be aimed at training students scientifically, giving them theoretical tools that will aid in finding new paradigms in the theories of art and cultural theories supported, among others, in the concepts proposed by Iuri Lotman’s semiotics, Lacanian psychoanalysis and social criticism. The PhD seeks to establish new paradigms of self and Mexican culture in this era of globalization, multiculturalism and co-existence between modern and so-called post-modern practices in a developing country. The IMICH will teach a total of five programs this school year – two undergraduate, one in Film and the other in Acting for Film, Theater and TV; two at the Master’s level, the first in Film Theory and Criticism and the second in Studies of Culture and Communication Systems; and a PhD in Humanities: Contemporary Theories of Artistic and Cultural Text Analysis. The second entrance exam for all programs will be on August 9, 2010.
