Tribute to Christian Poveda

The screening, organized by the production companies El Caimán and La
Femme Endormie, the Cineteca Nacional, the French Embassy in Mexico,
the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía, Canal 22, Canana Distribución and Article 19, is an act of solidarity by Mexican journalists and cinematographers in support of freedom of press. Poveda was living in El Salvador where his documentary was made when he was murdered.

The feature-length documentary talks about the confrontation between the Mara 18 and its rival the Mara Salvatrucha, gangs that originated in Los Angeles and following the civil war in El Salvador began spreading terror in the Central American country. The idea of the project came from a photographic report of 120 images that Poveda took for the French magazine Paris Match.

The documentary La vida loca, a FICM 2008 selection, is a co-production of France, Mexico and Spain. It will begin distribution in French theaters this month and in Mexico during October.
