Oscar Winning Films that Have Screened At FICM

The two most recent editions of FICM have opened with extraordinary films that have enjoyed a great deal of success on an international level, at various festivals around the world and with the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity, which opened the 11th FICM, won six Oscars in 2014 (Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Special Effects, Best Sound Edition and Best Sound Mixing); while Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), which opened the 12th edition of FICM last year, has just won four Oscars (Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Original Script). This recognition is testament to the quality of the films that we have had the privilege to show at our Opening Night. It is also noteworthy that both films were directed by Mexicans.
