May 25th, 2007. Lucía Puenzo´s XXY won the 46th International Critics´ Week Grand Prize, which consists of a 5000 cash award, sponsored by Cinépolis. XXY, Puenzo´s directorial debut, tells the story of a 15 year old girl with a secret. The film stars Ricardo Darín and Inés Efrén. According to the French press, XXY beat Ernesto Contreras´ Párpados azules by a very small margin. Parpados Azules, acclaimed by film critics, was the strong favorite to win this years´ Grand Prize. Puenzo´s film will also receive support from the Association of Independent Cinema and the Organization of Gas and Electric Companies. The cash prize, split among the director and the distributor, will go towards the film´s commercial exhibition in France. XXY, Párpados azules, and all films from the International Critics´ Week will be shown at the FICM, which will take place from the 5th to the 14th of October 2007.
