09 · 02 · 09 FICM laments death of Christian Poveda Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard Administrador Last August, Poveda visited Mexico to give a workshop for professional documentary filmmakers at the Third Meeting of Photography of Mexico in San Luis Potosí. Poveda worked for a number of newspapers, including El País, Le Monde and the New York Times. He also covered the wars in Iran, Irak, Lebanon and El Salvador during its civil war in the 80s. He reported in Chile during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet and in Nicaragua. Poveda, born in Argelia of Spanish parents, was assassinated at 54 years of age. His body was found on Sept. 3 in Cantón de el Rosario, a rural community north of San Salvador. In a press release, Reporteros Sin Fronteras said, "the [journalist] profession lost a man with strong humanist convictions and strict journalistic standards."
