09 · 26 · 22 FICM announces the schedule for its 20th edition Share with twitter Share with facebook Share with mail Copy to clipboard At a press conference held in Mexico City, the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) revealed the program of its 20th edition, which will take place from October 22 to 29, 2022. This 20th FICM will take place in a hybrid mode with in-person screenings at Cinépolis Morelia Centro, Cinépolis Plaza Las Américas, Teatro Mariano Matamoros, Centro Cultural Universitario and Plaza Benito Juárez, as well as free virtual screenings through Cinépolis Klic, Canal 22 and FilminLatino. OFFICIAL SELECTION The Michoacán Section, Mexican Short Film, Mexican Documentary, and Mexican Feature Film sections are an essential part of the Morelia International Film Festival. This year, 59 short films, 15 feature-length documentaries, 11 works from Michoacán and 10 feature films are in competition, adding up to 95 works by filmmakers from different states of the Mexican Republic. It is important to remember that in the case of fiction, documentary, and animation short films, as well as documentary feature films, winners will be considered eligible for the Oscar® nomination. JURY In this 20th edition, the jury for the FICM Mexican Feature Film section will be chaired by the extraordinary Oscar®-winning Polish filmmaker, a dear friend to the festival, Pawel Pawlikowski. The rest of the jury consists of: Ava Cahen, general delegate of Cannes Critics' Week; and Gaia Furrer, artistic director of the Giornate degli Autori, a segment of the Venice International Film Festival. The jury for the Mexican Documentary Section will include Josh Siegel, film curator at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA); Annouchka De Andrade, film activist and former director of the Festival International du Film d'Amiens; award-winning director Heidi Ewing; and Cédric Succivalli, president of the International Cinephile Society (ICS). The jury for the Mexican Short Film Section will be made up of Marie-Pauline Mollaret, member of the Cannes Critics' Week selection committee; Will Noah, channel editor at the Criterion Collection; and the great Mexican actress Arcelia Ramírez. Lastly, Erwin Neumaier, General Director of Estudios Churubusco; Héctor Orozco, renowned curator, and researcher; and prominent Mexican journalist Columba Vértiz, will make up the jury for the Michoacan Section. OPENING NIGHT SCREENING Thanks to the support of Netflix, the movie BARDO, Falsa Crónica de Unas Cuantas Verdades, by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, will be screened at the Opening Night Screening of our 20th edition, an event that will take place on October 22 in Morelia, with the extraordinary multiple Oscar®-winning Mexican director and writer in attendance. SPECIAL GUESTS During this edition we will have the privilege of counting with the precense of Oscar®-winning American filmmaker, Barry Jenkins, among our guests of honor. He will present Moonlight (2016), If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), The Underground Railroad (2021) and The Gaze (2021). Acclaimed French director Claire Denis will present a special program of her extraordinary work. Legendary Oscar®-nominated producer and filmmaker Frank Marshall will join us with his documentary Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story (2022), co-directed with Ryan Suffern, as well as a special screening of The Other Side of the Wind (2018), Orson Welles’s last film, produced by Marshall, and A Final Cut for Orson (2018), by Ryan Suffern. Spanish actress Maribel Verdú will present Raymond y Ray (2022), by Rodrigo García, as well as a special program of her extraordinary work comprised of the films Blancanieves (2012), by Pablo Berger; Pan's Labyrinth (2006), by Guillermo del Toro, and Siete mesas de billar francés (2007), by Gracia Querejeta.
