This film won the Palm d’Or at Cannes. This movie was presented last night during Cada quien su cine (Each one his own cinema) presentation. Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu was in charge of presenting this anthology which gathered 33 world wide films in order to celebrate 60 years of the Cannes Festival. The filmmaker explained how he was invited to this project: “one day I got a call from Giles Jacob, President of the Cannes Festival, and he exhorted me to film a short film. So he sent me the specifications and when I saw the context and knew who were the participants I couldn’t sleep for a couple of nights because I was thinking about the people I was going to share my work with, renown people like: Kiarostami, Kitano, Wenders Angelopolus.” This filmmaker who won Best Director at Cannes for his film Babel talked about the hardships of filming short films: “making a good short film is harder than making a long film. You can’t even add one gram of fat. We decided to make a 3 minute trial within a movie theater. The idea was to show the spot where we celebrate films. So I went to a movie theater to observe the walls and a serious idea came to mind and I came up with a shooting sequence with my talented friend Lubezki.” [imagen]Later on the Mexican filmmaker invited everyone to flavour the enjoyable film menu: “I know you will enjoy this film menu, where you can taste different artistic proposals. Thanks to Morelia and to Daniela. This is the only presentation of To each one his own cinema after being premiered at Cannes. ” Jean Christophe Berjon, director of the Cannes Critic Week was also at the show. Berjon discovered the talented González Iñárritu in the year 2000, year when the Mexican filmmaker was awarded as Young Filmmaker for his film Amores Perros and he also got the Grand Critic Award.
