In search of identity. Gregory Nava presents My Family

The audience was interested in the way Nava dealt with the theme of Mexican immigration to the United States and the mixture of cultures. Asked if the American Dream had died, the director said it was still alive and, although the situation is very hard in the United States, it is a country of opportunities. "I come from a very poor family," he said. "If I had stayed in Mexico I probably would never have become a film director."

Responding to a question about non-stereotyped characters, the director said that there are many stories that should be told in Latin America that go beyond the confines of the typical Latino stereotype. These stories, he said, should be constructed with interesting, three-dimensional characters.

Tomorrow don't miss the screening of El Norte (1983), another film by the director at the 10th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival.
